Just as beautiful but much less trafficked than Salt Lake County, Davis County offers wonderful opportunities for getting outdoors, particularly before summer starts. Your Fruit Heights apartment puts you close to great outdoor recreation. Here are three nearby hikes to get you started:

With something for everybody, Bair Canyon is a popular trail near your Fruit Heights apartment. It follows Bair Creek, which is at its best when it’s full of spring runoff. A short (3-mile out-and-back) hike gets you to a bridge. It takes less than an hour and is easy to squeeze into an evening after work. For an all-day, strenuous hike, the trail takes you to the top of Francis Peak for an 11-mile round trip. The trail is shady (until you get near the top), and a great place to see spring taking hold.

Spring is the ideal time to head to Antelope Island, before warming weather brings out the flies and makes the lack of shade an issue. Let the kids see the buffalo herd, and for more adventurous hikers, climb Frary Peak, the highest point on the island. The hike to the top and back is 6.5 miles and is steep, but offers spectacular views of Salt Lake, all of Davis County, and parts of Weber and Salt lake counties. Perhaps you can even spot your Fruit Heights apartment.

The Deuel Creek trail in nearby Centerville follows, predictably enough, Deuel Creek. The creek runs through Centerville Canyon, and the trail is well maintained by Centerville Parks. You can hike up the canyon on one side of the creek, then come back down the other. The entire loop (or out and back, if you choose to stay on the same side) is just under three miles and isn’t too steep. The trail is wonderfully scenic, and spring is a great time to enjoy walking by the creek. From your Fruit Heights apartment, take the Parrish Lane exit from I-15 and head east, then take a right on 4th East and a left on 1st South. Continue up the hill and take a right on the dirt road. You’ll soon come to a parking lot, and the trailhead for the south trail is there.

The weather is warming and you’re ready to get outdoors, so take advantage of all the recreation that’s just minutes from your Fruit Heights apartment.
